I have been trying (unsuccessfully I might add) to teach my kids geography. Until now I thought it had to be done with boring workbooks or textbooks. How WONDERFUL A Child's Geography looks. Simple, well laid out, engaging and most of all EASY for a busy mom to follow!

After downloading the samples, I KNOW I will buy a copy if I do not win one!

To sum it up in one word–WOW!

Thanks for the chance to try & win a copy.

I like how the program is set up and appreciate that it focuses on ways to reach out to others in the world–not knowing geography for geography’s sake.

Noelle Mador May 8th, 2009 at 2:05 pm

This is awesome it incorporates science with geography. We do a lot of unit studies during the summer and this would an excellent one. It incorporates storytelling with science and geography all in one.I would love to win this book.

This looks like an engaging way for children to learn about geography.

I know several people that have used and loved this. I have not done much formal geography…and this would be the perfect addition to our homeschooling program!

I love the way Ann writes! Reading these samples made me want to go read to my kids. I would love for my kids to hear her language and the way she describes the world in such a loving, reverent way. It gives me more appreciation of the world we live in.

this is fantastic! I love the postcards idea, and I was thinking, if you found a couple of kids who were also using it from around the world (homeschooling really is a global community) that your kids could send copies of their postcards to… that’d be fun too! I like that it glorifies God… we always need more curriculum that brings Him to the front our children’s minds when they look at the world around us, whether in science, history or geography. EXCELLENT!

Blessings!

This way of studying Geography looks absolutely wonderful. To me, Geography tended to be one tedious lesson after another. I don’t want my kids to feel that way about Geography. It has really only been recently that I discovered the excitement and wonder of Geography. I would love to win this and want to thank you for providing it as a giveaway. Three lucky people will be greatly blessed by your generosity!

Stephanie Guertin May 8th, 2009 at 2:18 pm

I’ve been waiting a long time to get these books, and every time I think I’ll be able to snag them something comes up with our homeschooling budget. I would really love to have either of Ann’s books in order to bless my children with what appears to be Ann’s usual fantastic content. Ann always has a way of blessing anyone who reads her words, while she encourages us to glorify our loving God.

In Him,

I liked the first three chapters that we downloaded. First of all, they are written from a Christian librarian’s perspective, which I think is a real big advantage. The book seems to tie activities into the book so that the student can search online or do something outside to help understand what was discussed in the book.

Even though we’re using a curriculum that teaches geography, I still feel my son’s need to learn more. I have looked at A Child’s Geography before. I would love to win a copy.

I like the fact that this curriculum gets the students physically involved rather than merely reading. The book looks to be exactly what I’m looking for!

This is such a beautiful book. I downloaded the sample chapters some time back to use them with my children – thinking I would be able to buy the book before the chapters ran out. Sadly though, so did my money! Maybe I'll be able to buy it during the sale – or maybe I'll be the lucky winner. Either way, I know that it is definitely a book I want to share with my family because of the unique way it makes geography come alive and introduces the people and places of the world through God's eyes.

Whenever I mention the word ‘geography,’ my children moan. My attempts to expose them to the subject have not been successful in rousing their interests. This is not like the dry, dull text books we’ve used before. Nor is it like the ‘fluffy’ books we’ve gotten from the library. It is substantial. I believe we would all enjoy using this curriculum.

Crystal May 8th, 2009 at 3:16 pm

This geography program is what I have been looking for. I thought geography was just maps and longitude and latitude – yuk!! Therefore, I have avoided this subject, knowing that I would have to do it…..later. This program is fun, interesting, and it’s not grade specific so both of my children can do this together. A Child’s Geography Vol. 1: After previewing Chapter 1, I knew this would be an excellent resource. Done in the same classical method and format as some of the Well Trained Mind books, moms will be able to pick this up and run with it! My wife and I were blessed and encouraged by two of your workshops at the Christian Heritage conference a few weeks ago. Thank you for all you do! We are new to homeschooling and out of our 4 kids (with another on the way) we currently have a kindergartner and a 4th grader.

While I don’t feel as qualified as the others here to review the book, I thought that the format was very appealing. The writing was captivating, and while I only planned to skim for a shot at receiving the book for free, I found myself unable to stop reading until I had finished reading all three segments! (Who new what the thermospere and ionosphere did?…amazing!) The experiments look very fun and relevant as well. I think this will be an easy addition to our growing list of picks for next year.

Anonymous May 9th, 2009 at 5:53 pm

I reviewed all three chapters plus the second book on the Holy Land. I love the simplicity and I mean that in a positive way. The chapters are broken down touching on several key points then build upon those through other medias. Each one picking up where the last one stopped. The ideas for the excursions were wonderful. My favorite was listening to the radio between 2 stations and expressing in words what sounds could be heard over the air. I’m an educator turned homeschool mom. I have a special needs child and I know she and her older sister will love the variety and closeness that these books bring to the study of geography. I’m ordering both books! momof4busyboys May 10th, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Wow! Started to send a quick blurb a couple of days ago, but then decided that I should probably go ahead and read the first 3 chapters. I think what really struck me was the conversational tone — made me think of the way “A Child’s History of the World” talks to you as you read. I also loved how the conversation attributed all the miracles to God. This world did not just appear from nowhere. It was spoken into existence by an amazing God with a very creative eye. I LOVED the “Reaching Out to His World” section that reminded my children and myself that there is a world out there that needs to be shown God’s love and mercy and then gave suggestions of ways to do it. I also really appreciated the Further Explorations section which suggested other books on the topics (even going as far as to suggest books by age/grade). I was fascinated to learn about the parts of the atmosphere (check out Chapter 2 and 3). I am really looking forward to reading about Continents next. Thanks for a very nice read. This house full of amateur geographers would really enjoy it next year.

This will be my first year homeschooling (K & 1st grade). My kiddos have a good public school to attend, but the opportunity to learn with curriculums like *A Child's Geography* has set me on fire to teach them. Why miss the adventure, the beauty, the depth, the wonder, and the chance to meet our Creator at every turn in the learning process?

I enjoyed looking through the samples of *A Child's Geography.* The language is accessible, friendly, positive, and engaging. I love how questions are used to ignite imagination; the inquisitive nature and passion of the writer quickly ignites the reader's desire to learn. This is the kind of book my kids would beg me to read for a bedtime story. What a fun way to learn … I can only imagine the passion it will ignite in them for our Creator, our world, and the people in it! I love, also, that the writer calls parents and children to reach out to others in our world, especially those in need.

My worries that teaching my kids would be drudgery are erased … at least as far as geography is concerned! Now to find similar options for other subject matter. (Another one I'm eyeing is *The Mystery of History* for history/social studies.)

From what I’ve read from the samples provided, this is exactly the kind of resource Charlotte Mason would have used in her own schools. A work of art.

HI there,
This sounds like a fantastic book. I love the emphesis on it being God’s World and the “reaching Out” part. We often learn about other countries in the context of what God is doing there and their spiritual needs so this would gel really well with our approach.

What a fantastic resource; this resolves my last planning dilema – what to use for Geography this coming year for our 6 “Cherubs”. Thank you, thank you.

This book appears to be beautifully laid out. I love the solid foundation of God being the Creator and all the “hands on” activities. Would love to have it as a part of our curriculum! Thanks! Karen -

I liked the way this book engages the child. It’s not just an interesting collage of facts and pictures but a meaningful conversation about the world we live in and how God is involved in it.

I also like the aspect of ‘journey’ that lends a framework to the chapters in this book. I just wonder why there aren’t many more on other topics such as history and science.

This looks like a wonderful resource. Thanks for making it available and putting it on sale.

I think it’s a neat way to cover a lot of things with one reading, and read-aloud has ALWAYS been my hands-down favorite way of teaching! I love that it’s God centered, and simple yet not TOO babyish. It may be a little young for my children at this point, but I would love to have one for my grandchildren! An old homeschooler never dies! ;-)
