You’re a home educator, right? You are tapped into the homeschool network and community through your support group, your favorite magazines, online chat groups and email newsletters. You know when a new product is coming down the pike, but you don’t always know if you need it.
Truth is… less is often more. You do not need every new edition, every latest release or every newfangled educational toy. What you do need are solid and timeless tools that you can use over and over again.
So, why have we released a new map book? I’ll tell you why… We released our first version of blackline maps back in 2001. In internet years, that is eons ago. We revised and updated them in 2004. The primary change was adding gray shading to the water to help kids identify it. And in the last 6 years, we have sold many maps to many people. We’ve received great feedback and raving reviews. So why fix something that’s not broke?
For a few reasons and they are…
-
-
- The homeschool marketplace is looking for superb quality. They want the BEST that is out there and available to them. Not a bad thing at all.
- Color is essential. Just because the outline maps for the kids to label and color need to be without color doesn’t mean that the teacher maps should be dull and gray. Color adds life and enjoyment and motivation to pull out and use the material.
- Our maps needed more detail in order to be used with older students. In 2004, we added lesson plans for teens so that they could use the maps that were originally intended for younger kids. But Map Trek maps are designed for students all the way through 12th grade. The lesson plans are broken down into 3 learning stages so that all of your children can benefit from them.
- There’s more competition out there now than there was in 2001. We care about the impression that our company makes in the marketplace and we are determined to provide an attractive and super-useful historical map book.
-
That is why Map Trek came into being. And we believe that you will truly love it. Here are some emails that we have received this week:
“I just downloaded the new Map Trek. It is EXACTLY what I needed right now, as we are using MOH 1 as our history spine this year. Thanks for your excellent products.” Ann
“The Map Trek ebook is AMAZING! I am, as always, very impressed with the lesson plans, the maps – both teacher and student, and the grids. Terri, your maps enable more learning because without your incredible maps and lesson plans, so much time is put into preparation and too much preparation can cause confusion in the learner. Thank you so much, Terri, for your love of history WITH geography; your efforts are blessing learners like you’ll never know! I have to say that this is well worth the price and I am looking forward to the subsequent volumes!” Wendi
Now, if you already have our Blackline Maps of World History. Let me provide a comparison for you:
- Map Trek “improves on” the Blackline Maps that we have had available for years.
- Map Trek is full color – Blackline Maps are black and white
- None of the maps are identical – although there are about 30% that are similar but have greater detail in Map Trek
- There are 68 maps in Map Trek: Ancient – while there are 48 in Blackline Maps: The Ancients
So, do you need Map Trek? Maybe and maybe not. If you have our Blackline Maps of World History and are completely satisfied with them, then no, you do not. If you have the Tapestry of Grace MapAids CDs, then no, you do not. If, however, you do not have a set of outline maps for your homeschool, then you should seriously consider these. The price won’t get any cheaper. If you want something that will grow with your kids, then you should consider Map Trek. If you want to decorate your walls with maps of the time period you are studying, Map Trek is a great choice.

I hope this helps. By the way, what do you think of the cover? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Nan,
Thanks for writing. Actually, we have had this project on a back burner for 2-3 years and the time just presented itself this fall to get it going. So, most likely, we didn’t know either. We are sorry about that though!
